Tweed is a kind of fabric woven from colourful yarns creating a variety of distinct weaving effects such as checks, stripes, diamonds or herringbones. Tweeds are an icon of traditional Scottish and Irish clothing, being desirable for informal outerwear, due to the material being moisture-resistant and durable.
For our HOPE tweed garments, we work with environmentally sourced and fully traceable wool from Abraham Moon & Sons, a weaving mill founded in 1837 in Guiseley, Yorkshire. They have an important centre in the history of British woolen textile production. Abraham Moon himself was a clothier and an entrepreneur during the Industrial Revolution, when he established a small mill next to a newly-built railway station to easily transport his cloth to the nearby cities of Leeds, Liverpool and beyond.
Abraham Moon & Sons’ raw wool is delivered from South Africa and New Zealand and is 100% natural, renewable and biodegradable, which creates a product of the highest ethical quality. After weaving the fabric is scoured (washed) using pure water and then milled and dried. The oils that were used to aid manufacture of the fabric are removed and water resist treatments can be padded onto the fabric. This is when the wonderful and luxurious feel starts to become apparent. The final step in the process is finishing. Each length of fabric is carefully pressed using steam and specialised equipment used to remove any shrinkage, thus completing the creation of the fabric.

Crisp Tencel
Content: 100% Tencel™
Origin: Portugal
Weight: 110 gr/m2
Features: Airy handfeel, breathable, absorbs moisture and soft on the skin.
TENCEL™ helps to maintain the environmental balance by being integrated into nature´s cycle. The fibers originate from the renewable raw material wood, created by photosynthesis. The certified biobased fibers are manufactured using an environmentally responsible production process. The fibers are certified as compostable and biodegradable, and thus can fully revert back to nature. The name is actually a brand name for a type of lyocell, TENCEL® is produced by the Austrian company Lenzing AG and is a cellulose fibre, which is made by dissolving wood pulp and using a special drying process called spinning. Before it is dried, wood chips are mixed with a solvent to produce a wet mixture. The mixture is then pushed through small holes to form threads that are then chemically treated and the lengths of fibre are spun into yarn and woven into clothing. According to Lenzing AG, Tencel has incredible absorption characteristics and is 50% more absorbent than cotton. Manufacturing Tencel requires less energy and water than cotton. As a naturally derived fibre, the fabric is also biodegradable.

Floral Print Recycled Polyester
Content: 69% recycled polyester 31% polyester
Origin: Italy
Weight: 83 gr/m2
Features: Satin feel and high-performance durability.
This durable, versatile fabric gets its name from the process of recycling used plastic into an entirely new, wearable material. Often called rPet, recycled polyester is made from recycled plastic bottles. The production requires far fewer resources than that of new fibers and generates fewer CO2 emissions. These plastic pieces are then converted into tiny pellets, melted, and spun into yarn. Our HOPE high-quality, Italian-made recycled polyester comes from Seterie Argenti, a historical company with an eco-friendly production in the Italian textile scene. Owned for at least five generations by the Argenti family and specialized in yarn-dyed jacquards to prints in both traditional and digital techniques. Our Floral recycled polyester in Flex Dress is individually cut for each dress, making every piece unique.

Boiled Wool
Content: 100% wool
Origin: Italy
Weight: 450 gr/ml
Features: Raw cut, breathable, low maintenance and natural elasticity.
Boiled wool fabric is created by first knitting wool yarns to create a fabric of uniform thickness. After knitting, the fabric is filled by boiling and agitating in hot water and an alkaline solution like soap. The agitation causes the scaly surface of wool fibers to stick together, producing a felted fabric. The result is a tighter and more dense material that is up to 50% smaller in all directions compared to the pre-felted fabric. Boiled wool is warm, durable, and resistant to water and wind.
Our HOPE boiled wool comes from the well-renowned wool producers of Italian Bellandi. With just one simple yet vital condition: “it should all and only come from ethical and sustainable farming” – they’re sourcing fine raw materials and wools committed to just find and buy the best.
Wool uses significantly less energy during its production than manufacturing man-made fibres and production produces lower carbon dioxide emissions and hence has a low carbon impact on the earth. Did you know that wool also has a natural UV protection factor of 30+? With its unique natural cell structure, the material harmonizes with its environment. Not only does wool absorb harmful pollutants from the air, but it also does not re-emit them as it holds them permanently within its core. It’s estimated that wool interiors can help purify the air for 30 years.
The ability of wool to absorb moisture makes it comfortable in both warm and cold conditions. By absorbing perspiration, wool enhances the body's own cooling system and helps keep the skin dry. This characteristic makes wool a versatile all-season fabric.

Teddy
Content: 100% recycled polyester GRS (Global Recycling Standard) certified polyester
Origin: Italy
Weight: 400 gr
Features: Soft eco-fleece, high-performance, durability and lightweight.
Often called rPet, recycled polyester is made from recycled plastic bottles and these plastic pieces are then converted into tiny pellets, melted, and spun into yarn. The HOPE Italian Teddy-fleece is very comfortable due to its lightweight and antiperspirant qualities that allows moisture to evaporate while blocking the humidity from the outside. It is breathable and fast-drying, which makes it perfect for activewear, winter, and autumn clothes. As it uses only synthetic fibers, fleece is also a vegan alternative to wool. By using recycled polyester, it can be seen as a better option saving its primary ingredient – raw petroleum – as well as energy. It also potentially reduces the number of bottles in landfills.

Floral Jacquard
Content: 100% cupro
Origin: Italy
Weight: 109 gr/ml
Features: Lustrous jacquard woven flowers, biodegradable, Oeko-tex Certified, fluidly follows the movements of the body, soft and smooth handfeel.
In jacquard fabric, the pattern and colors are incorporated into the weave instead of being printed or dyed onto the surface of the fabric. The term "jacquard" indicates how the pattern is woven, not the specific pattern itself. Because the pattern of jacquard is woven into the fabric, each yarn can be solution-dyed, giving it more fade resistance than topically dyed yarns. It also features high standard moisture regain. This makes the material highly anti-static, alleviating problems such as uncomfortable clinging and dust adhesion.
Our Black Flower Jacquard carries the Oeko-tex Standard 100 label, meaning that every component of this fabric has been tested for harmful substances and that the article therefore is harmless for human health. The test is conducted by independent OEKO-TEX® partner institutes.

Lyocell
Content: 100% Lyocell
Origin: Italy
Weight: 120 gr/m2
Features: Smooth, wrinkle-resistant, lightweight, breathability and strong.
Lyocell is produced by environmentally responsible processes from the sustainably sourced natural raw material of wood pulp. The cellulose from trees like Eucalyptus, Oak, and Birch is chemically broken down in a soupy sludge which is then pumped out through and reformed into more easily woven fibres. Lyocell is a biodegradable product and manufacture does not produce by-products harmful to health or the planet, while cellulose, its main ingredient, is obtained from well-managed forests. The unique physical properties of the fibres lead to their great strength, efficient moisture absorption, its softness and lightweight makes it very gentle to the skin.

Moleskin
Content: 100% cotton
Origin: Italy
Weight: Dux Blazer, Box Blazer, Van Trousers: 610 gr/ml
Tube Trousers, Alta Trousers, Pipe Skirt: 96%CO 4%EA, 228 gr/m2
Features: Soft, durable and has a suede-like finish.
Moleskin is a heavy cotton fabric, woven and then sheared to create a short, soft pile on one side. The feel and appearance of its nap are similar to felt or chamois, but less plush than velour. Clothing made from moleskin is noted for its softness and durability. Some variants of the cloth are so densely woven as to be windproof. Moleskin is woven of carded cotton yarn in a dense weft-faced satin weave. The surface is napped or sheared to "produce a suede-like finish".
Moleskin fabric is commonly used to make trousers, also referred to as "moleskins", that are similar to jeans in terms of cut and construction. They similarly started as working men's wear but are now also much more widely worn.
